3Great sound, good price, but not easy to use.  Mar 03, 2010
I bought this radio because I wanted good sound quality for the radio and iPod. The radio reception is much better than most alarm clocks. But trying to figure out how to control the volume of the alarm music has stumped both my husband and I, and the remote only works if it's directly pointed at the face of the radio and within about 8 inches of it. And it's almost impossible to find and push the on-off button or volume buttons in the dark...they're all on one continuous bar.

3Not bad for the price but I think there is probably better  Feb 18, 2010
Overall I have been happy with this unit. That being said though, there are a lot of things that could be improved. We use it in a fairly small bedroom as a clock, clock radio, speaker/charging system for iPod Touch and that's about it. For these purposes it functions fairly well. Having the 2 separate alarms is great, as is the ability to set the volume for each of the alarms. This means that if you go to sleep and forget that you had the music cranked the day before, you aren't blasted out of bed in the morning. While you can wake up to your iPod, you are limited to waking up to the last thing that was playing on there, and cannot select a certain song, playlist, etc.

The sounds is ok, but probably not suitable for more than occasional use in a small room. This is definitely no JBL On Stage or Bose SoundDock. The clock is ok; iIt is just about visible from about 10' away with it set on the medium brightness. All of these features so far are passable and make this product a fairly good buy for the money. Where it fails miserably though is with the remote. The remote is close to useless. I am assuming it is Infra-red, rather than RF, as you need to be fairly close and pointing right at the unit to get this thing to work. More than once I have spent too much time moving my hand around from the other side of the room, trying to get this thing to register. If they had only improved this, this unit would easily be worth 4 stars in my book, but this horrible failing means that at best it gets 3 stars. If you have no need for the remote, then no need to worry, but if, like me, you would like to use it a lot, you might want to look elsewhere.

3Poor design  Feb 03, 2010
Overall, I would not purchase this item again. Construction and sound quality are good to very good; however, the control panel bar/strip design for operation of unit functions is poor. The button bar is a small linear strip that runs the length of the unit in the middle of the front face. Different sections of this strip are pressed to activate functions. The labeling is difficult to read and the bar buttons/strip difficult to press. Operations are not intuitive, but the included manual is adequate. Lastly, the display can be difficult to read in daylight conditions even when set to brightest level.

3Iwakeup a mix of good and bad  Jan 07, 2010
This item has a lot a good things going for it:
a. Good sound for price.
b. Remote works great.
c. Basically feature rich.
d. IPOD works great with it.

It has a few items though that are hard to live with:
a. Even at dimmest level, the light is very disturbing in a dark room used for sleeping. Instead of backlite LCD, this would be a much better unit if it came instead with a red LED readout with auto dimming.
b. The radio tuner seems a little weak in reception.
c. This unit is not very user friendly, and I am a techy

Is it worth the money? Probably yes, but the Emerson iC172 iPod Dock Alarm Clock Radiomight be a better buy. Or at least worth looking at.

I was glad to finally find something compatible with my 4th and 5th generation Nanos. This clock radio plays my music, and recharges the Nano which was a big relief after all my old docks became uncompatible with my new Ipods.Plus, it's compact and comes with a remote.
