What a piece of junk! Aug 19, 2010 Seriously, what a piece of junk. I tried hard to like this product since I paid so much for it but it always left me wanting to scratch myself so badly it left scars. Always. Scars! It did not matter which channel I used, there was static. When there WAS a channel with minimal static, the thing lost connection, making a sound that startled me nearly out of my seat. This could have caused an accident. Griffin Roadtrip could have killed me on numerous occasions. Do not buy!
Sleek, but the old version was better Aug 19, 2010 Bought this to replace the older model. I was excited by the fact that it's much less obtrusive than the old one (I drive a stick) and had some cool features (scanning and multiple presets), but after using it for a few months the problems are starting to outweigh the benefits. The biggest issue is the ability to NOT pick up a radio station (I'm having a much harder time finding a usable station than I had with the old one - it seems like this one is picking up stations that the old one couldn't, which makes the sound quality terrible). It's also virtually useless when you have something else plugged in near it (like a phone charger) - whatever else is plugged in seems to act like an antenna and also makes the sound quality terrible. The scanning feature is also lacking (I had much better luck selecting my own channels), and the adjustable arm needs more rigidity (my iPod constantly weighs it down to the point that it won't stay in place). Bottom line, I'll be looking for a stereo with an iPod jack when the time to replace my current setup comes.
Griffin RoadTrip FM Transmitter with SmartScan for iPod Jul 25, 2010 my wife loves it... i did buy it for myself but she had a old one so i just gave it to her...tons of thanks...
fm transmitter Jul 19, 2010 this thing is great it will auto scan the 3 best channels in the area and preset them for you. Its really easy to use plus comes with many different holders for all the different ipods. I'm vary happy i bought this item.
Too expensive, hates the iphone 3g Jul 17, 2010 Yes, technically it charges the phone. Technically it also plays your music/podcasts to the radios. That's if you can get reception. For a long car trip, it constantly changes frequency, you have to have a co-pilot to deal with the thing every 5 miles so you don't crash. The little plastic bit that holds the phone is flimsy and falls apart if you pick it up quickly. The holder is at a stupid angle for some cars too. It's a slow charger, and it does not actually play phone calls on the speakers as I hoped. It also gave me an error that the phone was not compatible, and this error began to follow my phone even after it was unplugged from the jack. I had to eventually get my phone replaced to get rid of the error. I would not recommend this thing because it is far too expensive, even discounted, and it is not fully compatible with the iphone 3g no matter what it claims. Some functionality yes, but not fully compatible, and it may do permanent damage to your phone.
