Not quite to par for the Iphone Jul 21, 2010 I bought the RoadTrip for the 3G Iphone. It is exactly what I was looking for (charger + fm transmitter) and it performed great, but only at first. It is absolutely pointless now as I constantly get messages saying the phone is not compatible. It constantly interrupts the music and the charger goes on and off.
It is done for.
A total bummer as this device has the right idea. No cords. Your phone isn't lying around the car attached to some annoying wire. It charged. It played your music. They just need to get the connection area fixed and work out whatever is causing the error messages.
They fix that and this is a sure 5 star for me.
Works for me! Jun 14, 2010 My drives around town are so short (15 miles to work, less for errands) that the am / pm drive can be nearly all commercials on the radio so I was looking for a transmitter to play podcasts from my iPhone. That has worked out great and not worrying about stereo quality sound certainly makes finding a usable frequency easier! The re-charging feature is great given the iPhone's short battery life and my lack of charging habit. Definitely recommend this product.
Ok signal quality most of the time. Doesn't hold phone securely. Jun 11, 2010 Sometimes the signal quality is very good. Other times it is not as good. Pretty par for the course on FM transmitters. Often I would find myself placing one finger on the side of the unit as I drive in order to boost the signal quality.
The arm is very stable and stiff and will not move unless you move it yourself. What cases me to go from this to another FM transmitter is the fact that it does not hold the phone securely. If I go over a big bump it will loosen the phone. Then all it takes is a hard turn to send the phone flying to one side or the other.
I have the thinest case made for the iPhone, and my case causes the fit to be less than ideal. If you have anything thicker than the Case-Mate Barely There, your case will not fit with this transmitter. You would be required to remove the case to use the transmitter.
I recently bought the FlexPod+. It is far superior to this case. It holds the phone securely. It has MUCH better signal quality. It is cheaper. In short, skip the Griffin and go with the FlexPod.
*** BEWARE IF YOU HAVE TO RETURN ITEM **** Jun 11, 2010 We purchased this device after trying several others. Although it did perform okay sometimes, it would not always hold preselects as per instructions with our iPod Touch. There would be hissing interfearances depending where you were or areas traveling through - even with European settings. Their instructions are not clear on how to program inputs for those settings. Due to having to repeatedly reset the functions - it has been decided to return the item due to the hassels. Unfortunately, they have only a credit type system (via Griffin) requiring you to buy some other item from them. If you do not need their other products - you are stuck without a refund option. Vendors do not let you return it them to once purchased = Catch 22. Good Luck!
Relatively good performance, especially for the price. Jun 11, 2010 This product is fairly "plug and play" My IPhone does say occasionally that it is not a product intended for use with the phone, but it works fine anyway. I would note that you will have to turn up your stereo volume when using this device. Works well except under conditions when you are in a place that has a lot of broadcasting radio stations (I couldn't find a channel that worked for example when I was in Washington DC recently).
