Finally! Exactly what I have been looking for! Jul 29, 2010 I have been going through alarm clock radios like a monkey through bananas. Literally three different ones in the past 15 months. This one finally has everything I need and will not fall apart when I slap it during a groggy morning wake up. It was really difficult to find a clock that had everything I was looking for. I like waking up to nature sounds. I like the alarm to gradually increase instead in volume instead of just shouting at me, and I want a nap feature. It was nearly impossible to find a clock with all of these features, and trust me I have been looking. The sound is great for an alarm clock, and better than I expected. The build quality is top notch. The brightness of the display is completely adjustable and is just the right brightness at night. Every other alarm clock I have had has been extremely to bright, even when adjusted to the lowest setting. The last one I had was a Sharper Image model, and it was literally like having a TV on at night. This is worth every penny. -Jeff
Simple and intuitive Jun 12, 2010 This clock has many functions, its controls intuitive and has a simple, clean design. Our previous (and ancient) Sony Dream Machine was dying and I was, at first, hesitant to buy this because it looked too basic and a little too retro-y for me. But this has all the features we used on the Sony but more easily laid out. The wood casing gives a richer sound output. The silver dial in the front is the key to its ease of use. It certainly beats pressing a small button dozens of times to get to the desired setting. Analog dial to easily control many prompts that come us digitally on the screen... genius!
Almost perfect Jun 05, 2010 I did a lot of research between brands. This is a beautiful alarm clock radio, and I believe it is one of the best engineered units currently on the market. I am happy with my purchase, and I am sure you will, too.
Pros:
VERY well constructed and handsome
Nice sound at very low volumes. Great for bedside listening.
Cons: This is knit picking, but in the pursuit of the perfect alarm clock radio, the folks at Acoustic Research should address the following:
There is an annoying click when switching between radio stations, when turning on the radio, and when the music alarm starts up in the morning. I am startled awake every morning a split second before the music begins.
The sound is pretty decent when listening from sound level 1 through 42. From levels 42 to 64, the speakers can't handle it.
The base gets pretty muffled at the higher volume levels.
When switching channels, rather than going to the channel beside the one you are on, the radio takes you back to your first programmed station on your list.
I have not yet tried the iPod dock yet to know how well that feature works.

WOW....GREAT CLOCK RADIO Apr 25, 2010 After reading the previous reviews for this clock radio I decided to purchase it from Amazon. After 1 month of ownership I can say this is the Best clock radio ever. The features were very easy to set-up without reading the manual. The display is very crisp,(not blurry in a dark room) Easily read even without my glasses. Being a bit of an audiophile I was most interested in hearing the sound. I was AMAZED at how well it sounded for such a low price. My daughters are jealous at the amount of bass this unit produces compared to their I-Home docking stations. I would HIGHLY recommend this unit.

Great clock radio Apr 03, 2010 Bought this as an anniversary gift for my wife. She was a bit baffled/shocked when she opened it, I think expecting something more romantic. As it turns out she fell in love with it right away. The music sounds are terriffic and the radio works as it's supposed to. Took a little getting used to, to figure out the electronics but we got there easily enough. Turns out to be quite a radio. She especially loves the sounds of nature and the ocean in particular. We have an ipod and used it as a base for about a week in the kitchen, and then it went into the bedroom where it belonged. While in the kitchen we had it playing our ipod music and the sound is very good. One caution....we have a Bose docking station for the ipod, and that sound is spectacular!! Compared to the Bose, the Accoustic Research rates an easy 8 out of 10 with the Bose getting 10 of 10. If you don't have a Bose to compare with, then you will be extreemly happy with the sound. No complaints so far, and everything is working as it should. Hopefully it will continue for many years to come.
